The Month of June, the Start of Summer
As we enter the month of June, we naturally tend to think of summer and outdoor activities. As dialysis patients, I encourage you to enjoy the outdoors as often as possible. While your treatment does dictate your schedule to a great extent, there is still opportunity to get outside now that the days are longer and warmer.
Our latest newsletter offered some safe ways for you to enjoy the outdoors AND still maintain your treatment schedule. If you haven't read it, you can access it here.
Featured days and month celebrations in June include
-
Best Friends Day, June 8 - Started right here in the US of America, this lighthearted holiday is a tribute to close friends. June 8 was chosen because it is usually a warm day in all regions of the country—perfect for outdoor activities. Since then, many other countries have adopted the practice. Some even throw festivals to celebrate their chosen family.
-
National Making Life Beautiful Day, June 11 - Although celebrated on June 11 each year, we can decide to make life beautiful every day. National Making Life Beautiful Day is to celebrate those who make life beautiful for others. Whether investing in relationships, advocating for a cause you feel strongly about, or offering encouragement to others, these beautiful actions tend to have a ripple effect. Everyone deserves to be celebrated on this day, just for adding beauty to the life of at least one other person.
-
National Go Fishing Day, June 18 - a great stress reliever since it's really more about being out on or at the water and enjoying the serenity of the activity than actually catching a fish.
-
Sunglasses Day, June 27 - since you will be spending time outdoors, don't forget your sunglasses and sunscreen. Safe sun practices are essential regardless of the amount of melanin in your DNA.
-
Zoo and Aquarium Month - surely you have a zoo or an aquarium near you. Use this month to go visit one especially if you haven't gone in a while.
-
National Camping Month - I, personally, am not a tent person so an RV might be a good option if you're like me, or even better, a cabin. Many campsites offer well-appointed cabins for campers which might be really good for you if you do PD or home HD.
